February 18, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer 2009 / 2010 Awards Banquet was held tonight with approximately 100 guest and players in attendance. Culinary Capers catered a delicious meal. Ten Varsity Letter jackets were awarded. The Awards recipients are: Fighting Indian Leadership Awards: Kathleen Keenan, Sarah Keville and Jackie Metz. Fighting Indian Award: Alex Kuh. Defensive Player of the Year Awards: Baylee Earl and Hannah Witherell. Midfield Player of the Year: Sarah Keville. Striker of the Year: Kat McClain. Rookie of the Year: Ashley Ritter. Coaches Award: Brooke MacMillan. Most Valuable Player Award: Jackie Metz. Senior, Diana Momreal-Vega received her varsity letter jacket, Senior Plaque and a senior gift. JV Awards were: JV Defensive Player of the Year Award: Amira Al-Khatib. JV Striker of the Year: Alexis Otero. Coaches Award:. Laura Rodriguez. All JV players received Participation Certificates and five received Varsity Participation Certificates. We look forward to a great 2010 / 2011 season. Tryouts ... 238 days and counting. February 5, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer Banquet is on Thursday, February 18th, 2010 at 6:30 pm. Please plan on attending this night of celebration, as we recognize our Varsity and Junior Varsity players. Girl's Soccer Banquet Invitation & Contact Information January 28 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team could not find the equalizer and fell in the regional quarterfinals to Apopka High School by a score of 1 nil. Lindsey Rice, who will be playing College soccer at Florida State next year, scored with 19-minutes remaining in the first half and that would be the only goal needed to give Apopka a trip to the semi-finals on Tuesday against Bayside who defeated Ocoee 4 to 1 in their Regional quarterfinal match. The young Vero Beach team should be proud of their accomplishments this year and with continued hard work they should find their way back to the regional tournament next year. The Fighting Indians end the season with a record of 11-7-1 and an impressive UNDEFEATED record of 5-0-0 at Home. January 22, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team battled for 80 minutes but fell short of winning their first District title since 1986. Bayside High School, Jenci Villaverde, who will be playing her College soccer at Florida Golf Coast University next year, scored a goal to the far post at the 61st minute that gave Bayside the District Championship. The Fighting Indians pounded the goal for the last 15 minutes but were denied the equalizer by good goalkeeping from Madeline Helsel and some near misses. The Lady Indians will travel to Apopka on Thursday to play in their first regional quarter-final appearance since 2005. TCPALM Story and Photos January 20, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team advanced to the District 6A Finals on Friday with a 2 nil victory over Centennial High School. The score was tied 0 to 0 at half-time with both teams having limited scoring opportunities. Ten minutes into the second half, a goal by Kathleen Keenan was called back due to a hand ball violation at the goal-line. A penalty kick was awarded and Keenan converted what would be the winning goal. With 15-minutes remaining in the game, Keenan's through-pass found Kat McClain who beat the Centennial keeper for the decisive 2 nil victory. Destiny Kelley had 5 saves in goal and earned her 5th shutout of the year. It was the Fighting Indians 7th shutout of the season. The Lady Indians will play for the District Championship on Friday at 6 pm at Bayside against Bayside High School. Bayside defeated Treasure Coast by a score of 3 to 2 to earn a trip to Friday's finale. Both Bayside and Vero Beach advance to the regional quarterfinals next Thursday, 1/28/10. The District Champion will host the Thursday game at home and the District runner-up will travel to a school in Central Florida. Vero Beach's overall record stands at 11-5-1. January 13, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team fell to South Fork by a score of 4 to 1. Alex Kuh had the lone goal on a Sarah Keville assist. Destiny Kelley made 8 saves in goal. The Lady Indians played 18 players in the game and welcomed Amira Al-Khatib and Heather Fredrickson to the Varsity team. The Indians concluded regular season play with a record of 10-5-1 and 3-1-0 in the District. January 12, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team defeated Indian River County rival Sebastian River by a score of 9 to 1. Jackie Metz led the scoring with 3 goals and 2 assists. Sarah Keville scored 2 goals and had 2 assists. Kat McClain, Ashley Ritter, Kathleen Keenan and Diana Monreal each added 1 goal. Kayla Evens and Keenan had 2 assists, and Hannah Witherell 1 assist. Destiny Kelley made 5 saves in goal. The Fighting Indians improved to 10-4-1 on the season and remain undefeated at the Citrus Bowl. January 8, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team battled for 80-minutes but Gabby McIntyre's goal in the 7th minute stood as Treasure Coast defeated the Fighting Indians by a score of 1 nil. Vero Beach had numerous scoring opportunities in both halves, including 5 header chances in the second half from corner-kicks and throw-ins, but could not convert. Treasure Coast notched third place for the District tournament while the Lady Indians took the number one seed. Vero Beach will play the winner of Centennial versus Gateway for a right to play in the District Finals. Treasure Coast will play Bayside with the winner advancing to the District Championship game on Friday. January 6, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team defeated Lincoln Park Academy by a score of 2 to 0 to earn their sixth shutout of the season and the fourth shutout for Goalkeeper Destiny Kelley. Sarah Kelville scored on an assist for Kat McClain in the first half to give the Fighting Indians a 1 nil lead at half-time. Ashley Ritter scored on a direct kick from 25-yards out to notch the 2 nil victory. Vero Beach improves to 9-3-1. January 3, 2010 - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer Calendar is UPDATED. - The Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer team clinched the
number one seed in District 6-6A by defeating Centennial High School 4 to 0 in
Port St. Lucie. The Fighting Indians are undefeated in District play and
improve to 8-3-1 and 3-0-0.
Jackie Metz headed a corner kick into the near post at the
3-minute mark to open the scoring for the Lady Indians. Sarah Keville had the
assist and then scored two goals on the night, one in each half. Kat McClain
added a goal on a Metz assist, 11-minutes into the second half. Kayla Evens
and Ashley Ritter also recorded one assist each. Goalkeeper Destiny Kelley
had 4 saves in goal.
The Fighting Indians return to action on January 6th against
Lincoln Park at Lawnwood Stadium. Game time is 4 pm.

December 15, 2009 -Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer Photos: Click Here December 10, 2009 -Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer earned their second District win by defeating Bayside High School 3 to 2. The Fighting Indians are undefeated in the Citrus Bowl this year. Kat McClain scored two goals, the first and what would be the game winner, to lead the Fighting Indians. Sarah Keville's shot from 25-yards sailed over Madeline Helsel's outstretched hands that gave Vero Beach a 2 nil lead in the first half. Jenci Villaverde had both goals for Bayside. Kathleen Keenan, Ashley Ritter and Keville each had an assist. Ritter had 6 saves in goal for Vero Beach. Vero Beach improves to 7-3-1 and 2-0-0 in the District. December 8, 2009 -Vero Beach High School Girls Soccer earned their fourth shutout of the season with a 14 to 0 win over Ft. Pierce Central in Ft. Pierce. Center Midfielder Jackie Metz led the Fighting Indians with 3 goals and 2 assists. Winger Sarah Keville scored 3 goals including the opening goal in under the 1-minute mark. Striker Kat McClain scored 2 goals and had 1 assist. Striker Kathleen Keenan netted 2 goals and 2 assists. Destiny Kelley had 2 goals. Goalkeeper Ashley Ritter converted on a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the year. Diana Monreal added one goal. Baylee Earl, Kayla Evens, Alex Kuh, Danielle Rappel and Hannah Witherell each had 1 assist. Ritter made 1 save in goal and earned her second shutout. December 3, 2009 - The Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team played to a 1 to 1 draw against Satellite Beach High School at Satellite Beach. Sarah Keville scored the equalizer from a Jackie Metz assist with 6 minutes remaining in the game. Vero Beach had numerous opportunities in the first half but failed to capitalize. Freshman goalkeeper, Ashley Ritter, recorded 8 saves on the night. Hannah Witherell, Baylee Earl, Kayla Evens and Brooke MacMillan provided solid defending for the Fighting Indians. The Indians record stands at 5-3-1 and 1-0-0 in the District. Vero Beach plays Ft. Pierce on Tuesday in Ft. Pierce. Game time is 4 pm.

The Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team defeated Heritage
High School by a score of 8 to 0 at the Citrus Bowl in Vero Beach. The
Fighting Indians were led by the return of Kathleen Keenan who scored the
opening goal at the 14-minute mark and added another goal in the second half.
Keenan also had 2 assists. Freshman striker Kat McClain had 2 goals and 1
assist. Jackie Metz netted 2 goals and 1 assist. Sarah Keville had one goal
and 3 assists. Center Back Hannah Witherell headed a corner kick in for her
first goal of the year. Alex Kuh added one assist. Freshman goalkeeper,
Ashley Ritter, making her first start in goal, recorded a shutout and made 2
saves on the night. The
Indians improve to 5-3-0 and 1-0-0 in the District. Vero Beach plays
Satellite Beach on Thursday at Satellite. Game time is 7 pm.
November 30, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer was awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America ( NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the the FOURTH consecutive year. The 2009 District Team Roster posted a team GPA of 3.91. Please help me in congratulating the players on this Academic Achievement. Vero Beach slides to 4-3-0 and remains 1-0-0 in the District. Vero plays Heritage on Tuesday at 5 pm at the Citrus Bowl. Happy Thanksgiving to all. November 19, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team lost to Palm Bay by a score of 2 to 0. Freshman Goalkeeper Caylea Mace had 5 saves in goal in her first start as a goalkeeper on the varsity team. Vero Beach slides to 4-2-0 and remains 1-0-0 in the District. Vero plays Melbourne on Tuesday at 7 pm in Melbourne. November 16, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team stunned South Fork with a 5 to 2 win at the Citrus Bowl in Vero Beach. Hailey Bertin led the Fighting Indians with 2 goals. Sarah Keville, Jackie Metz and Kat McClain each added a goal. Ashley Ritter and McClain had an assist and Keville had 2 assists on the night. Goalkeeper Destiny Kelley had 6 saves in goal. Ashley Beyer, Baylee Earl, Danielle Rappel and Hannah Witherell stepped-up their second-half defending to keep South Fork off-balance. Vero Beach improves to 4-1-0 and remains 1-0-0 in District 6-6A. The Lady Indians travel to Palm Bay on Thursday for a non-district varsity only match at 7 pm. November 13, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team defeated Gateway High School in a District 6-6A match by a score of 7 to 0. Hailey Bertin and Alex Kuh recorded hat-tricks to lead the Fighting Indians in scoring. Jackie Metz recorded a goal and an assist. Sarah Keville assisted on four of the goals, Kuh and Hannah Witherell each had one assist. Destiny Kelley made one save. The Indians improve to 3-1-0 and 1-0-0 in the District. Vero plays South Fork at the Citrus Bowl on Monday at 7 pm.

November 10, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team fell to Martin County by a score of 3 to 1 at Martin County. Vero Beach had opportunities in both halves to tie and take the lead but "the game of inches" denied those opportunities. Martin County led 1 nil at half time and 15 minutes into the second half knocked in their second goal on a rebound off Goalkeeper Destiny Kelley. Sarah Keville brought the game to within one when she placed a far-post side net shot from 25-yards out. Jackie Metz had the assist. With 8-minutes remaining, Metz 1 v 1 with the goalkeeper was saved by the Martin keeper. Martin County scored with 1-minute remaining on a counter-attack that caught the Indians flat. In Junior Varsity action the Lady Indians fell by a score of 4 to 2. Vero Beach Varsity plays Friday in their Home-Opener and first District match at 5:30 pm against Gateway High School. November 5, 2009 - "Metz Header Clinches Last Minute Win." Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team defeated Astronaut High School by a score of 3 to 2 on a chilly night in Titusville . Jackie Metz headed Sarah Keville's free-kick to the near post with only 90-seconds remaining in the match to give the Fighting Indians their second victory in as many games. Ashley Ritter scored on a direct-kick from 25-yards out in the first half and then assisted on Kat McClain's goal in the second half. Destiny Kelley recorded 8 saves in goal. Vero Beach Junior Varsity was missing their starting goalkeeper and fell by a score of 5 to nil. The Lady Indians will travel to Martin County on Tuesday for their next match. November 3, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer defeated Port St. Lucie by a score of 8 to nil. Freshman Hailey Bertin and Ashley Ritter scored two goals each as did Sophomore Sarah Keville to lead the Fighting Indians. Both of Ritter's goals came from direct-kicks including one from 30-yards away. Jackie Metz assisted on three goals and added a goal of her own on an indirect-kick. Alex Kuh had the goal of the night on a one-touch finish from a Keville cross. Keville recorded 2 assists on the night. Goalkeeper Destiny Kelley made one save in goal for her first shutout of the regular season. Baylee Earl, Ashley Beyer, Aly Ringeisen and Hannah Witherell anchored a tough defense that only allowed one shot on goal. In Junior Varsity action, Vero defeated PSL by a score of 6 to 0. Andrea McRostie recorded a hat-trick, Alexis Otero had 2 goals and Dominique McRostie added one. Caylea Mace recorded the shutout in goal. October 29, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer fell by a score of 5 to 4 against Merritt Island High School in the Vero Beach Pre-Season Soccer Classic. Kathleen Keenan recorded her second hat-trick in as many matches to lead the Indians in scoring. Ashley Ritter's direct-kick from 35-yards out gave Vero Beach their fourth goal of the night. Sarah Keville had 2 assists and Jackie Metz recorded 1. Destiny Kelley recorded 14 saves in goal. Vero Beach opens regular season play on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7 pm against Port St. Lucie. The match will be played at the Hobart Soccer Complex. October 27, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer opened their 2009/10 campaign with an impressive 8 nil victory over Heritage High School in the Vero Beach Pre-Season Soccer Classic. Kathleen Keenan recorded a hat trick and led the scoring with 3 goals. Jackie Metz's goal from 25-yards out at the two-minute mark opened the scoring. Metz netted another goal and had 3 assists in 40-minutes of play. Kat McClain, Diana Monreal and Danielle Rappel each added a goal. Sarah Keville recorded 2 assists with Ashley Beyer, Estefany Hernandez, and Hannah Witherell each adding one assist. Goalkeeper Destiny Kelley recorded the shutout and one save on the night. Vero Beach plays Merritt Island on Thursday at 7 pm. Merritt Island defeated Martin County 4 to 1. Martin County will play Heritage at 7 pm at the Hobart Soccer Complex on Thursday. Teams will be announced and posted on the website. Fifty players have competed for 36 spots, CONGRATULATIONS to all. The toughest part of the tryouts is the coaches struggle to pick only 36. We will do our best. We are also looking to provide those players not selected with an opportunity to continue playing the game. We are looking forward to an outstanding year of VBHS soccer. October 15, 2009 - Please check calendar and game schedule for changes that occurred today. October 13, 2009 - Two days of tryouts have concluded. There are 16 varsity spots on the line and 20 junior varsity spots. Tryouts conclude on Thursday. The 2-mile run is scheduled for Friday at 6 pm. As a reminder, this is mandatory run for all players trying out. If you have already recorded a time during pre-season you are okay. If you wish to improve your time, you are encouraged to come out on Friday. Make sure to wear Running shoes for a timed 2-mile run. October 5, 2009 - Congratulations to all our 2-mile run participants today. Sarah Keville's blistering 14:43 was our fastest 2-mile run in 4 years! A hundredth of a second back was Jackie Metz followed by Kathleen Keenan's 14:47. Seven runners finished under 17 minutes to include: Alex Kuh 15:27, our top freshman time was posted by Ashley Ritter 16:15 followed by Aly Ringeisen 16:23 and our second top freshman time of 16:24 by Hailey Bertin. Last year's fastest time was 16:26 and did not include a 1-mile bridge segment. Congratulations again! Tryouts officially begin on Monday, October 12th. September 26, 2009 - VBHS Soccer held it first ever 5K in support of the teams with 78 runners completing the race. Overall winner Jon Williams blistered the course in a time of 17:26. Mary Lunn was the first woman crossing the finish line in a time of 22:44. March 3, 2009 - Vero Beach High School Center Back and Defensive Player of the Year, Cassidy Bartholomew, was honored today by being selected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Team. Cassidy was one of only 18 Seniors in Florida to be selected to represent the East Team in the All-Star Classic to be held in Lake Mary on March 13th and 14th. The selection process is: Treasure Coast Coaches nominate players from both their own team and opponents. The final selections are made by the staff of Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers Sports Department. February 18, 2009 - The Vero Beach High School Girl's Soccer team held their 2008 / 2009 Awards Banquet tonight. Ten Varsity letters were handed out. The 2008 / 2009 awards were as follows: Defensive Player of the Year: Cassidy Bartholomew, Midfield Player of the Year: Jackie Metz, Winger of the Year: Sarah Keville, Offensive Player of the Year: Kathleen Keenan, Tackler of the Year: Rebecca Clement, Rookie of the Year: Kathleen Keenan, Unsung Hero Award: Lauren Aldridge, Coaches Award: Lyndsey Wojtaszek, Most Valuable Player Awards: Kathleen Keenan and Jackie Metz. Eleven Seniors received a Senior Plaque and a senior gift. All JV players received Participation Certificates and some received Varsity Participation Certificates. We look forward to a great 2009 / 2010 season. Tryouts ... 235 days and counting. |
